What is a full session?
A full session is a relaxed, storytelling-driven photography experience designed to give your family the time and space to truly settle in. Full sessions last 60 minutes, allowing moments to unfold naturally without feeling rushed or overly structured. This session type is ideal for families who want a deeper, more connected gallery—one that reflects not just how you look, but how this season of life feels.
What a Full Session Includes
With a full 60 minutes together, we’re able to capture a wide variety of images: full family portraits, sibling interactions, individual moments, and all the in-between connections that often become client favorites. This timeframe is especially beneficial for children. Some jump right in, while others need time to warm up. A full session honors both personalities, leaving room for movement, play, snack breaks, outfit adjustments, and moments of rest.
How a Full Session Differs from a Mini Session
While mini sessions are short and efficient, full sessions are intentionally unhurried. A mini session is perfect for quick updates or a simple refresh. A full session, on the other hand, offers:
- More time for children to ease in
- Greater variety in poses and groupings
- A more relaxed pace with less pressure
- A richer, more storytelling-focused gallery
If you’re hoping for images that feel layered, emotional, and deeply connected, a full session is often the best choice.
A Thoughtful Experience from Start to Finish
My approach is intentionally light-hearted and connection-focused. I guide families in an action-based way—prompting movement and interaction—so the images feel natural, as if they were captured in the middle of a meaningful moment. There’s no need to micromanage or stress about perfection. When parents feel calm and present, children naturally mirror that energy.
A “Good” Time to Take Photos
Family sessions are typically scheduled in the evening to ensure we’re photographing during the most beautiful light of the day. This avoids harsh midday sun that can create unflattering shadows or bright sun spots. Light is one of the most important elements of your session. While I know evening timing can sometimes feel late—especially with little ones’ bedtimes—I promise the soft, glowing light is worth it. Beautiful light creates timeless, flattering images and plays a huge role in the overall look of your gallery.
